Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya broadens academic horizon with marine & port logistics

Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, based in Vadodara and long known for its expertise in railway, aviation, and highway logistics, is expanding its academic horizon to include the marine and port sectors. Announcing the shift during the university’s convocation ceremony, Union Railway Minister and Chancellor Ashwini Vaishnaw stated, “We have now decided to extend this focus to include the marine and port sectors as well.”

This strategic expansion is expected to align with India’s growing emphasis on coastal infrastructure and maritime trade, creating new opportunities for research, education, and workforce development in these vital industries.

In addition to this expansion, a new Centre of Excellence in bridge and tunnel engineering is being established at the university. This initiative aims to equip students with specialized expertise in this critical area of infrastructure development. Being an industry-driven and innovation-led university, it has already established several collaborations with leading institutions and industries worldwide. The University has so far partnered with various top-notch companies, including Airbus and L&T, to provide students with real-life knowledge. Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) Vadodara was established through an Act of Parliament in 2022 to create the best-in-class manpower and talent for the entire transportation and logistics sector.

Addressing the event, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said that India is witnessing unprecedented transformation in its infrastructure and logistics sectors, which is laying a strong foundation for the country’s economic development. Further describing the logistics sector as a game changer for 21st century India, Raksha Mantri said that it has immense opportunities for the youth and will play a key role in building a developed India and called upon the youth to take responsibility in building a developed India. Explaining the importance of logistics, he said that the stronger the logistics services, the stronger our borders remain. When we deliver defence products manufactured in one part of the country or food supplies for soldiers to the border on time, the morale of the border guards becomes strong.
