GENMA has won a major equipment supply order from JSW Kolkata Container Terminal Pvt Ltd to deliver three Ship-to-Shore (STS) cranes and nine Rubber Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes for its upcoming terminal in eastern IndiA. The contract strengthens GENMA’s footprint in India’s port equipment sector and reflects rising investment in modern container handling infrastructure nationwide.

JSW Kolkata Container Terminal is part of JSW Infrastructure Ltd.’s expanding port network, with the company ranking as India’s second-largest private commercial port operator. JSW Infrastructure has been growing its presence on both coasts with a focus on operational efficiency, multimodal connectivity, and sustainable port development.

Delivery Challenges

Crane deliveries are scheduled to commence in 2027, but the project faces unique logistical constraints due to the terminal’s inland waterway location. Access to the terminal is regulated through lock gates, requiring cranes to be shipped in multiple consignments using smaller-tonnage vessels. This necessitates extensive shipment planning, synchronised logistics coordination, and phased on-site assembly operations. Execution schedules must also account for eastern India’s monsoon conditions, with installation activities carefully planned around limited weather windows to avoid disruptions. Rajendra Patil, Regional Sales Director at GENMA, noted that the project demonstrates the company’s expertise in handling customized engineering and delivery requirements despite strict vessel size restrictions and monsoon avoidance needs.

The project aligns with JSW Group’s sustainability objectives, with GENMA’s green crane designs and energy-efficient technologies complementing JSW Infrastructure’s focus on environmentally responsible port operations.
