Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways announces Roadshow in Kochi for the Global Maritime India Summit 2023

The Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways announces a pre-event roadshow in Kochi, serving as a precursor to the highly anticipated 3rd Global Maritime India Summit (GMIS) 2023. The roadshow is scheduled to take place on September 28, 2023 at Le Meridian, Kochi, and will bring together government dignitaries, industry captains, maritime stakeholders, and enthusiasts. 

The Hon’ble Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways & Ministry of Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, along with Shri Shripad Naik, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Shri Shantanu Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways will grace the occasion through special video messages on the future of Indian Maritime industry and Kochi shaping the future of maritime transportation. They will also be joined by Shri Rajesh Kumar Sinha, IAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Shri K.S. Srinivas, IAS, Principal Secretary to Govt. of Kerala, Fisheries and Ports Department, Shri Rajesh Gopalakrishnan, CGM, CSL, Shri Sunil Mukundan, MD, India Ports Global Limited, Shri Madhu S. Nair, CMD, Cochin Shipyard Limited, Shri N.S. Pillai, Chairman, Kerala Maritime Board, Shri Praveen Joseph, CEO, IGTPL, DP World and Shri Vikas Narwal, IAS, Dy. Chairperson, Cochin Port Authority.

Anchored by the Cochin Port Authority and Cochin Shipyard Ltd., the Kochi roadshow establishes the foundation for the upcoming 3rd Global Maritime India Summit later this year, which will bring together government officials, industry leaders, maritime stakeholders, and enthusiasts, making it a pivotal event that will influence the future of the industry and strengthen India’s position as a global maritime powerhouse.

Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways & Ministry of Ayush said, “The Cochin Port holds a pivotal and essential role in India’s maritime industry, serving as a crucial pillar in our nation’s development journey. Its significant and remarkable impact enhances both trade and connectivity, thereby cultivating a more expansive realm of economic growth. This maritime gateway not only reflects the economic strength of the region but also stands as a tangible symbol of our steadfast commitment to boosting trade, promoting interconnectedness, and fostering social cohesion.”

Shri Shantanu Thakur, Hon’ble Minister for State, Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Govt. of India, articulated his anticipation by declaring, “As we navigate the currents of progress, our commitment to the development of river hinterland communities, the promotion of tourism, and the preservation of India’s maritime heritage remains unwavering. As India’s first city to embrace the water metro project, Kochi embodies our commitment to eco-friendly transportation and holistic urban development.”

He added, “With the transformative initiatives like the Kochi maritime cluster and innovative shipbuilding technologies, Kerala is set to become a global maritime hub. Join us at the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 in Mumbai from 17 to 19 October, where we will showcase Kochi’s achievements and present Kerala as a compelling investment destination for the maritime, waterways, and cruise sectors. Together, we chart a course towards a brighter maritime future.”

Shri Shripad Naik, Hon’ble Minister for state and ports, Shipping and Waterways stated, “As we stand on the cusp of unprecedented growth, it is imperative to recognize the pivotal role played by the maritime sector in shaping India’s destiny. With its strategic geographic advantage, India’s ports and waterways hold immense potential to not only drive domestic prosperity but also foster international connectivity. The state’s shipbuilding prowess, coupled with its vibrant cruise tourism industry, exemplifies the boundless opportunities that await. Together, we are charting a course towards a future where Kerala stands at the forefront of maritime innovation and prosperity.” The event will further showcase stimulating dialogues that are expected to redefine the journey of the maritime sector. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways extends an invitation to all ship-owners, seafarers, Ports, placement agencies, recognized organisations, multimodal transport operators, equipment manufacturers, Maritime Training Institutes, service suppliers, service users, PSUs, and all other stakeholders to join the roadshow and take part in shaping the dialogue around the future of the Indian maritime sector.
