The Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd. (GESCO) has announced the acquisition of a Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier of about 81,922 DWT, strengthening its fleet expansion programme. Built in 2016, the vessel is slated to join the fleet by the third quarter of FY 2026. The acquisition will be funded entirely through internal accruals. GESCO currently operates 38 vessels, aggregating 3.04 million DWT, including 26 tankers (five crude carriers, 17 product tankers, and four LPG carriers) and 12 dry bulk carriers. The company reported near 100% capacity utilization, reflecting strong operational efficiency.
This development follows earlier deals to acquire two secondhand vessels—a Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier contracted in July 2025 and a Suezmax crude carrier contracted in August 2025. Both are also scheduled for delivery by Q3 FY 2026. With these three additions, Great Eastern’s fleet will rise to 41 vessels, boosting its total capacity to 3.37 million DWT. The company said the move is in line with its strategy to consolidate market presence in both the dry bulk and tanker segments, amid rising global shipping demand.
