The Haldia Dock Complex (HDC) of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata, delivered its highest-ever monthly container throughput in November, registering a 48.97% year-on-year increase and handling 21,691 TEUs.
The port authority said the milestone was driven by better operational planning, quicker vessel turnaround, and stronger coordination among cargo-handling teams, all of which contributed to a smoother and more efficient flow of containers.
In comparison, HDC had processed 15,231 TEUs in November last year. The latest performance also surpassed its earlier highs of 20,133 TEUs in January 2025 and 20,627 TEUs in September 2025, marking a continued upward trend in container movement at the dock.
Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port described the achievement as a major boost to the port’s performance indicators. However, it did not release corresponding data for the Kolkata Dock System (KDS), which, along with HDC, forms the twin operational components of the port. The sharp rise in throughput underscores HDC’s growing importance as a key cargo gateway on India’s eastern coast.
