HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering has ended a review of a proposed joint venture with India’s Cochin Shipyard to establish a new block fabrication plant, while continuing technical cooperation between the two companies.

The decision follows a comprehensive memorandum of understanding signed by HD KSOE and Cochin Shipyard in July 2025 covering potential business collaborations. The initial agreement provided a framework for the companies to explore cooperation in areas including shipbuilding, design and procurement.

Following discussions under the framework, the companies decided to discontinue consideration of the proposed joint venture for a new block fabrication plant, HD KSOE said in a stock exchange disclosure. It noted, however, that the companies will continue technical cooperation, including design and procurement support and the supply of core equipment such as engines for feeder containerships contracted between Cochin Shipyard and French shipping company CMA CGM.
