Hutchison Ports will upgrade Ajman Port for AED 1 bn

Under a new AED 1 billion deal with international port operator Hutchison Ports, Ajman is about to start a significant port infrastructure expansion. A long-term development plan to turn Ajman Port into a high-efficiency logistics hub is outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which was signed this week in front of H.H. Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of the Executive Council. 15-year transformation roadmap A 15-year integrated plan to manage, operate, and expand Ajman Port in accordance with global best practices will be developed by Hutchison Ports and the Department of Port & Customs Ajman (DPC) under the terms of the Memorandum of Understanding.

The plan aims to boost handling performance, operational speed, and safety standards, while also aligning with digital transformation goals and introducing AI-powered port management systems. A key focus of the plan will be on developing national talent and equipping the local workforce with modern port management skills. Building on existing links The MoU was signed by Sheikh Dr. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Department of Port & Customs Ajman, and Andy Tsoi, Managing Director for the Middle East and Africa Division at Hutchison Ports.

The collaboration between DPC and Hutchison is not new. Since 2011, the partnership has contributed to strengthening Ajman Port’s role in the UAE’s maritime transport network, a position now set to be significantly enhanced through this expanded investment.
