In an effort to secure India’s southwest coastline, the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has opened a new ICG-specific jetty at Vizhinjam Harbour in Kerala. The facility was inaugurated by ICG Director General Paramesh Sivamani.

Speaking of its strategic significance, Sivamani stated that it is a significant advancement in fortifying the coastal security framework and guaranteeing quicker reaction times in the area. The modern 76.7-meter berth will facilitate quicker ICG vessel deployment and turnaround, improving mission readiness for fisheries protection, coastal surveillance, search and rescue, and anti-smuggling.

The ICG jetty is next to the Vizhinjam International Transshipment Deepwater Port and only ten nautical miles from important international shipping channels. Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, Commander, ICG Region (West), and senior officials from other departments attended the ceremony.
