IMU seals new partnerships with academia & industry at IMW 2025

Indian Maritime University (IMU) demonstrated its pivotal role in advancing maritime education, innovation and employability during the India Maritime Week 2025. As India’s premier Central University for maritime education, research and training, IMU displayed its commitment again to bring academia and industry together. Through its strong industry collaborations, global partnerships, and student-driven initiatives, IMU continues to build a competent and future-ready maritime workforce.

The university signifies themes of youth empowerment, skill development, and industry readiness. They curate specialized programmes that connect students directly with global industry leaders, policy experts, and employers shaping the maritime sector’s future. At the University, students actively participate in expert-led workshops, technology demonstrations, and career-oriented discussions, gaining practical insight into emerging trends in shipping, logistics, sustainability, and digital transformation.

During the MoU signing, Dr. Malini Shankar, Vice Chancellor at Indian Maritime University said, “We are delighted to have signed 13 MoUs with leading research organisations and international institutions. These global academic partnerships aim to build new frameworks for academic exchange, dual-degree programs, collaborative research, and cross-border skill development—strengthening IMU’s commitment to preparing Indian students for global maritime careers.”

The University’s new International partners include, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft Centre for Maritime Logistics, MARIN (Netherlands), MARINET Russian University of Transport, University of Tasmania and National University of Singapore

The new national partners include Chennai Port Authority, Centre for Human Security Studies (Hyderabad), Inland Waterways Authority of India (Noida), Reva University (Bengaluru), Seven Islands Company, Berhampur University and HIMT,

These partnerships establish new frameworks for academic exchange, dual-degree programs, joint research, and cross-border skill enhancement, to reinforce IMU’s commitment to prepare Indian students for global maritime careers. As the academic anchor of India’s maritime ecosystem, the Indian Maritime University continues to play a transformative role in shaping the nation’s human capital for the blue economy.
