India and Russia have intensified discussions on expanding maritime collaboration as Nikolai Patrushev—senior aide to President Vladimir Putin and chairman of Russia’s Maritime Board—met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, the talks centered on new avenues of cooperation in connectivity, shipbuilding, skill development and the blue economy. The engagement comes ahead of President Putin’s planned visit to India next month for the 23rd India–Russia Summit, which will also mark 25 years since the signing of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership.
Modi conveyed his greetings to President Putin and reaffirmed India’s readiness to host the upcoming summit. Patrushev’s visit, officials said, signals growing momentum in bilateral ties, particularly in maritime and strategic domains.
The meeting highlighted several priority areas:
Maritime Connectivity: Strengthening logistics links and improving supply chains between the two countries.
Shipbuilding & MRO: Exploring joint ventures in vessel construction, as well as maintenance and repair capabilities.
Blue Economy: Expanding cooperation in sustainable ocean resource management and marine research.
Arctic Engagement: Enhancing collaboration in Arctic navigation, exploration and resource development.
Both sides reiterated their commitment to advancing a multipolar global order and working together on regional stability and global security.
The discussions underscore the depth of the India–Russia partnership and the shared intent to scale up economic and strategic cooperation in the maritime sector.
