In a significant good news for India on geopolitical front, reports have it that Russia is increasingly focusing on Iran’s India-operated Chabahar Port. Viewing it as a critical gateway to South Asia and a strategic link in emerging Eurasian connectivity, Moscow believes the port can play a pivotal role in connecting South and East Asia with Europe and Central Asia. In a significant move, Russia has decided to integrate Chabahar into the strategically important International North South Transport Corridor (INSTC), a move that could help India’s interests in the region.

Underscoring the growing and geopolitical and economic relevance of the group, the inclusion of Chabahar in the INSTC is expected to benefit Iran the most. As the corridor will pass through Iranian territory using a combination of land and sea routes, this development enhances Iran’s position as a key transit hub between Asia and Europe while supporting Russia’s broader plan to establish a faster and more efficient trade route linking India to Europe via Russian territory. For India, Chabahar remains a vital access point to Central Asia and beyond, bypassing traditional routes.

According to Press TV, senior officials from Iran and Russia have emphasized the urgency of accelerating the implementation of the INSTC. During high-level talks in Tehran, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council and Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister for Transport highlighted the need to move the project from planning to full operational status.
