India’s fertiliser imports from China recorded a sharp 173 per cent increase in FY26, reaching 5.02 million tonnes compared to the previous fiscal year, according to Ministry of Commerce data.

Russia maintained its position as India’s largest fertiliser supplier, with shipments rising to 6.8 million tonnes in FY26 from 4.9 million tonnes in FY25. The substantial increase in Chinese imports reflects India’s growing dependency on external sources to meet domestic agricultural nutrient requirements.

Basmati Rice Exports

In agricultural exports, Saudi Arabia and Iran remained the two largest markets for Indian basmati rice during FY26. Iran’s purchases increased by approximately 17 per cent in volume terms compared to FY25, despite ongoing geopolitical challenges in the region. Basmati rice continues to be one of India’s most significant agricultural export commodities.
