Consignments from China will undergo 100 percent checking instead of random checks.

India has stopped clearances of Chinese goods at Chennai customs, which will now be subject to 100% checks. No formal instruction has been issued to stop clearances, but these consignments are likely to face 100% check, said people aware of the situation.

There has been a thinking within the government for some time that clearances of Chinese goods should be restricted to West coast ports. Chennai port is the key port for import of telecom parts and equipment and used by many Chinese companies that are present in the country.
