The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Sachet, an Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV), arrived at Maputo, Mozambique, as part of its ongoing deployment to Africa—reaffirming India’s commitment to regional maritime cooperation and security under the national vision of SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region).

During the visit, Sachet delivered 20 metric tonnes of Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) supplies, including essential medical stores and medicines, to Mozambican authorities. The assistance underscores India’s continued support in strengthening Mozambique’s disaster management and public health preparedness.

The port call highlights the Indian Coast Guard’s growing operational reach and role as a partner for peace and stability in the Indian Ocean Region. Throughout its stay in Maputo, the ship’s crew will engage with local maritime agencies in joint professional exchanges and training sessions covering key areas such as Marine Pollution Response (MPR), Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR), and Maritime Law Enforcement.

The programme includes onboard demonstrations of Visit, Board, Search & Seizure (VBSS) operations, pollution response exercises, as well as cultural exchanges and friendly sports events to foster mutual understanding and camaraderie between the two maritime forces.

Beyond professional cooperation, ICGS Sachet’s crew—joined by National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets and Assam Rifles personnel—will take part in community outreach initiatives, including beach clean-up drives and marine awareness campaigns conducted with local youth organizations.

These activities align with India’s Puneet Sagar Abhiyan, a national initiative aimed at combating marine pollution and promoting ocean conservation.

The deployment of ICGS Sachet reflects India’s growing role as a trusted maritime partner in Africa, combining humanitarian outreach, environmental stewardship, and regional security cooperation to strengthen the bonds between India and Mozambique.
