India is set to deploy its first fully electric tug, marking a major step in the decarbonization of port operations under the Government of India’s Green Tug Transition Programme (GTTP).

The 60-ton bollard pull tug will be stationed at Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla, Gujarat. The project is led by a consortium of Netincon Marketing Pvt Ltd and Ripley Shipping Pvt Ltd, both part of the Ripley Group, a prominent player in logistics, port development, and ship ownership on India’s east coast.

Technology partners have provided a fully integrated propulsion and battery package designed to deliver reliable, high-performance, and energy-efficient operations. The vessel is being constructed at Mandovi Drydocks, with the Ripley Group investing in the solution as part of its commitment to sustainability and innovation in port services.

Officials say the launch represents a new era for Indian shipping, as the sector begins its transition to cleaner, smarter, and more sustainable operations in line with national green port goals.
