Export Inspection Council, Marine Products Export Development Authority, Handicrafts Development Commissioner, Central Silk Board and Textile Committee are the authorised bodies which will approve the certificates.

Indian exporters now will be able to apply for certificates of origin for exports to Australia from 29 December which will help them to redeem the custom duty benefits under the Indo-Australian free trade agreement (FTA).

The FTA is coming into effect on 29 December this year.

‘A Certificate of Origin’ is a key document needed for export to those countries with which India has trade agreements. A certificate of origin is necessary to prove where the goods come from.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said in a circular that the electronic platform for Certificates of Origin (eCoO) is being expanded to facilitate the process for exports under the India-Australia economic cooperation.

“The electronic copy shall bear the image signature of the issuing officer and the stamp of the issuing agency,” the statement added.

On submission and approval of applications online under the trade agreement, the e-CoO system will generate one electronic copy.

Export Inspection Council, Marine Products Export Development Authority, Handicrafts Development Commissioner, Central Silk Board and Textile Committee are the authorised bodies which will approve the certificates.
