Inviting international domain experts to realize India’s Maritime Vision 2047: Sonowal

Union Ports, Shipping, and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said India is gathering domain experience from top countries to guarantee marine vision 2047 targets are reached. At the moment, the Minister is in charge of the Indian delegation attending Nor Shipping 2025 in Norway. According to an official release, Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) and Kongsberg of Norway have signed a deal for India to construct its first Polar Research Vessel (PRV).

“Talks with nations with experience in developing maritime infrastructure have taken place. In accordance with the objectives of 2047, partnerships will be established,” Sonowal stated. “Domestic maritime operations will incorporate global best practices,” he continued. By 2047, India wants its ports to handle 10,000 million tons of cargo annually (mtpa), a fourfold increase. The Maritime India Vision 2047 seeks to grow inland waterway freight volume by 400% in order to reach 500 MTPA by the deadline, among other objectives.
