[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) has awarded Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V. (Boskalis), in joint venture with Jan De Nul, the project for deepening and widening of the JN Port Channel and Mumbai Harbour Channel. In this second phase of the deepening and widening, the draught of the Port will be increased from 14 metres to 15 metres, it is learnt, thereby facilitating the berthing of larger container vessels.

As per a Boskalis release, the works are scheduled to commence in the coming weeks and will be completed within two years.

The areas to be dredged include the 35.5 km long access channel and various turning basins and anchorage areas. In total, more than 40 million cubic metres of sand, silt, clay and rock will be removed. For this project, a jumbo trailing suction hopper dredger will be deployed in combination with a jumbo cutter suction dredger and a large backhoe.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
