The JSW Group has expressed interest in investing Rs 1.2 lakh crore in Karnataka over the next five years, Minister for Large and Medium Industries M B Patil said, as the state continues its investment outreach with leading industrial groups.

What discussions led to this announcement?

Patil held talks with JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal and Joint Managing Director Jayant Acharya during a two-day investment roadshow in Mumbai, held soon after the expansion of the state cabinet. On the first day of the roadshow, the minister also met representatives from around 10 leading companies, including L&T, Bisleri International, Raymond Lifestyle Limited, Tarq Semiconductors of the Hiranandani Group, Sanofi Consumer Healthcare India, Magnum, Balu Forge and Max Aerospace.

What is JSW’s existing footprint in Karnataka?

Patil said the JSW Group considers Karnataka its preferred destination for future investments, having built a strong industrial presence in the state over the past three decades. The group has played a central role in the industrial development of the Ballari and Vijayanagara regions, having already invested around Rs 1.30 lakh crore in Karnataka to date.

What does the additional investment cover?

Beyond the fresh Rs 1.20 lakh crore commitment, JSW’s Karnataka investments span steel, energy, infrastructure, cement and paints. Its steel business alone has previously seen commitments to expand the Vijayanagar plant, currently capable of producing 12 million tonnes annually, into one of the world’s largest and most advanced steel facilities, alongside significant investment in the group’s energy operations.

What support has the state government offered?

Patil said the state government will extend all necessary support for the proposed expansion, reinforcing Karnataka’s push to retain and grow investment commitments from its long-standing industrial partners as part of its broader economic development strategy.

What other investment interest emerged from the roadshow?

Separately, Bisleri International expressed readiness to expand its manufacturing capacity in Karnataka, a move expected to generate around 2,000 additional jobs, with the state government encouraging the company to consider locations such as Vijayapura or Chamarajanagar for the proposed expansion.
