Kamarajar Port Limited (KPL) has achieved a milestone by becoming the first port in India to handle automobile transshipment operations.

On 27 August 2025, the port managed its maiden consignment when 550 cars belonging to Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. (MOL) Group were discharged at the General Cargo Berth from the car carrier m.v. Tourmaline Ace. The vehicles, shipped from Singapore, were placed at the GCB Transit Yard for onward movement.

The consignment is scheduled to be reloaded on m.v. Marguerite Ace on 29 August, bound for destinations including South Africa, Mauritius, and Tanzania.

With additional consignments expected in the coming months, Kamarajar Port is positioning itself as India’s emerging hub for automobile transshipment, reinforcing its growing role in global trade logistics.
