A 50-tonne Bollard Pull tug JYESHTA V.C. 11173 has been delivered by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd, Visakhapatnam to Kandla Port Trust on January 9, 2017. The tug, built at a cost of Rs 45.59 crore, is capable of moving at a speed of 12 knots and has a Bollard Pull capacity of 50 tonnes. The Azimuth Stern Drive (AZD) tug has a forward independent winch enabling it to assist any ship in Push-Pull mechanism, and is fitted with state-of-the-art Rolls-Royce SRP propulsion system and Caterpillar engines of 3,840 KW which enable it to manoeuvre with ease and speed.

The tug is also suitable for emergency duties like firefighting and combating oil spills, being fitted with powerful AGNI-I firefighting equipment. Its ability and capability is seen in the long voyage undertaken under its own power from Vizag to Kandla without stopping for re-fuelling, covering a distance of 2,200 nautical miles. This also shows the quality of the workmanship of Hindustan Shipyard.

The dynamic leadership of Ravi Parmar, Chairman, Alok Singh, Deputy Chairman and Capt. T. Srinivasa, Deputy Conservator has added another feather to the cap of Kandla Port by bringing in such a capable and efficient tug which will enhance the performance of the Port and benefit the trade.
