Kandla International Container Terminal (KICT) has achieved a major operational milestone by surpassing its previous year’s total cargo handling well ahead of schedule. The terminal has recorded cumulative throughput of 78,06,220 metric tonnes (MTs), exceeding last year’s full-year figure of 77,58,498 MTs with three months and nine days still remaining in the current financial year.

This early achievement highlights KICT’s strong operational performance, efficiency gains, and sustained growth momentum. The terminal’s ability to cross last year’s volumes significantly ahead of time reflects improved asset utilisation, streamlined processes, and robust coordination across terminal operations, logistics partners, and shipping lines.

Industry observers note that rising cargo volumes at KICT also point to growing confidence among exporters, importers, and shipping stakeholders in the terminal’s reliability and service standards. Enhanced yard productivity, faster vessel turnaround times, and consistent focus on safety and digitalisation have played a critical role in supporting higher throughput.

The milestone comes at a time when India’s ports and terminals are operating in an increasingly competitive and volatile global trade environment. KICT’s performance demonstrates how focused operational planning and execution can deliver results despite external uncertainties.

With several months still left in the year, the terminal is now well positioned to build on this achievement and set a new benchmark for annual cargo handling. KICT’s early milestone underscores its role as a key logistics gateway at Kandla, contributing to trade facilitation, regional economic growth, and the overall efficiency of India’s maritime supply chain.
