In the first half of 2025, Klaipėda Port handled around 700,000 TEUs, putting it on track to reach the 1 million TEU milestone by the end of the year. Nearly 19 million tonnes of goods were carried through the port during that time, a 16% increase over the first half of 2024. The majority of the freight segments saw growth. At 40% and 41%, respectively, exports and imports were evenly distributed, while transhipment made up almost one-fifth of all container volumes.

The overall amount of freight across the Baltic Sea increased by 5% to 46.4 million tonnes. With the fastest growth rate among Baltic ports, the port currently accounts for 40.8% of the regional market, up from 37.1% a year ago. With the highest cargo flows to and from Germany, Sweden, Poland, the United States, and the Netherlands, Klaipėda Port maintained maritime ties with 56 countries in the first half of 2025.

The largest increase rate, up 48% to 1 million tonnes, was recorded by mineral and building materials, which reflected Lithuania’s ongoing infrastructure projects. Volumes of scrap metal plummeted by 25%, grain shipments reduced by 14% to 1.4 million tonnes, timber freight decreased by 11%, and fertilizer volumes decreased by 4%. Liquefied natural gas (LNG) volumes rose 47% to 1.1 million tonnes; the FSRU Independence’s month-long dry-docking had an impact on previous year’s numbers. Oil product handling increased by 4% to slightly over 2 million tonnes, while RoRo freight volumes increased by 6% to 3.2 million tonnes.

Shipbuilding and repair activity remained steady, with two new vessels built and 35 ships repaired at local companies. In May, Klaipėda Port announced that Telia will pilot Lithuania’s first standalone (SA) 5G network at the port. The trial will allow the Klaipėda State Seaport Authority and local operators to explore the benefits of a private 5G network, while setting the stage for broader deployment across critical infrastructure sites nationwide.
