In a major push to strengthen Karnataka’s maritime and logistics ecosystem, the Karnataka Maritime Board (KMB) has entered into multiple agreements and memoranda of understanding (MoUs) worth ₹4,500 crore aimed at enhancing port connectivity, infrastructure, and allied facilities across the state.

The agreements, signed during the India Maritime Week 2025, are expected to accelerate investments in coastal development and modernize the state’s maritime capabilities. According to KMB, the initiatives will focus on improving last-mile connectivity, building critical port infrastructure, and creating a skilled workforce for the evolving maritime economy.

The highlight of the event was the concession agreement exchanged with JSW Infrastructure Ltd for the development of an all-weather, deep-water greenfield port at Keni in Uttara Kannada district. The project, valued at ₹4,118 crore, will be developed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model and is envisioned to become one of the key maritime gateways on Karnataka’s west coast.

In another strategic move to enhance multimodal connectivity, KMB signed an MoU with Konkan Railway Corporation Ltd (KRCL) for the development of the Amadalli railway siding project in Uttara Kannada district. The ₹45.88-crore initiative will improve cargo evacuation efficiency and strengthen port-to-hinterland logistics links.

Additionally, KMB entered into an agreement with the Karnataka Department of Fisheries for projects worth ₹12 crore in Ballari district, focused on building cold storage units, seafood processing facilities, and a quality testing laboratory. These developments aim to bolster the fisheries supply chain and add value to marine exports.

KMB officials said the new partnerships reflect Karnataka’s commitment to creating a robust and integrated maritime ecosystem that supports trade, logistics, and industrial growth while generating significant employment opportunities across coastal regions.
