M T Krishna Babu, a 1993-batch IAS officer, appointed as chairman of New Mangalore Port Trust, assumed charge on Sunday. Krishna Babu, currently the chairman of Visakhapatnam Port is expected to join his new assignment here shortly. At Vishakapatnam, he has been instrumental in guiding the port on the path of excellence in cargo handling, as well as developing it as a green port, a communique for the secretary, NMPT, stated here on Monday.
A qualified Engineer, Krishna Babu commenced his career in National Thermal Power Corporation. He has held various positions in local, provincial and central government as an IAS officer and has wide experience in the infrastructure sector. He also held additional charge as chairman of Paradip Port Trust, Kolkata Port Trust and Haldia dock complex. He succeeds Suresh P Shirwadkar, deputy chairman, who was holding fort as in-charge chairman.
