Liege Airport (LGG) in Belgium and Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) in the United States have entered into a strategic partnership aimed at boosting freighter operations, launching joint marketing initiatives, and advancing operational and digital collaboration between the two major cargo hubs.

The sister airport agreement, unveiled during the Air Cargo Southeast Asia (ACSEA) conference in Singapore, establishes a structured framework for cooperation designed to strengthen transatlantic cargo connectivity. The partnership will focus on increasing freighter traffic, attracting new cargo airlines and logistics players, and streamlining airport processes through digital innovation and operational synergy.

Signed in the presence of senior representatives from both airports and industry leaders at ACSEA, the agreement reflects a shared ambition to expand the global cargo network. Liege Airport recorded a 23% year-on-year growth in cargo throughput during the third quarter of 2025, handling 334,956 tonnes, supported by a 9% rise in aircraft movements to 7,262. Chicago Rockford International Airport also reported a 1.5% year-on-year increase in cargo volumes in 2024, bolstered by new alliances with international freight carriers.
