The Union government has named senior IAS officer M Angamuthu (Assam-Meghalaya cadre) as the new Chairman of the Mumbai Port Authority (MbPA). He currently heads the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) and will succeed Rajiv Jalota, who retired in October 2024. Since then, Sushil Kumar Singh, Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority, had been holding additional charge of MbPA.
The appointment, cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, was announced through an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
Situated on India’s western seaboard, Mumbai Port is among the country’s oldest and busiest ports, handling bulk and liquid cargo as well as passenger traffic. It also plays a key role in urban infrastructure integration and cruise tourism.
The leadership change comes at a pivotal moment as India’s major ports prepare for capacity expansion, digitalisation, and green port initiatives under the government’s Maritime India Vision 2030.
