In light of Israel’s growing tensions with Iran, container shipping major Maersk said that it had temporarily suspended vessel calls at the Haifa port. Maersk reported that there had been no additional interruptions to its planned activities in the area. Adani Ports of India own 70% of the Haifa Port, which was privatized in 2022. The Gadot Group of Israel owns the other 30%. Under the leadership of billionaire Gautam Adani, Adani Ports is the port operations division of the Adani Group. The corporation runs four ports outside of Indian seas, including Haifa port.

Since last Friday, Israel has been attacking Iran from the air in what it says is an attempt to stop Tehran from creating nuclear weapons. Iran has launched counterattacks on Israel in retaliation for Iran’s denial of ambitions to acquire such weapons. Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Thursday that it has attacked military and industrial locations in Haifa and Tel Aviv connected to Israel’s defense industry using a combination of missiles and drones.
