A.P. Moller–Maersk has announced a fresh Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on container shipments moving from Asia to South-East India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, citing the need to maintain service reliability amid strong seasonal demand and rising operating costs. The surcharge applies to cargo loaded from China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Timor Leste to Kattupalli and Visakhapatnam in India, as well as to Nepal and Sri Lanka, effective from 25 February 2026 until further notice.
According to Maersk’s customer advisory, the PSS will be charged per container on top of existing freight rates and other applicable surcharges, with the carrier arguing that the adjustment is necessary to continue offering stable schedules and space availability on these lanes. Industry reports note that the latest move follows earlier PSS applications on Far East–to–India and Pakistan corridors and comes at a time when shippers across South Asia are already grappling with cost pressures from Red Sea diversions and tight equipment availability.
