Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong are slated to jointly inaugurate India’s largest container port at Uran later this year. In preparation for the high-profile event, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis recently met with Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and Transport Minister Jeffrey Siow to evaluate the progress of Phase 2 of the Bharat Mumbai Container Terminal.

Operated by Singapore-based PSA International, the terminal marks the largest foreign investment in India to date, totaling $1.3 billion. With a handling capacity of 4.8 million TEUs and boasting the country’s longest wharf at 2,000 meters, the facility is poised to transform India’s maritime infrastructure. Port authorities emphasized that the new terminal will dramatically boost the nation’s trade efficiency and global connectivity. The visiting delegation conducted a comprehensive tour of the site to inspect its infrastructure and operational readiness.

During the visit, Deputy PM Gan Kim Yong inaugurated CapitaLand Investment’s new data centre in Navi Mumbai. CLI is investing US $453 million in the facility through its business trust, CapitaLand India Trust. An MoU was signed between CLI and the Maharashtra government, under which CLI, a major stakeholder in Manipal Health Enterprises Private Ltd, will establish a multi-specialty hospital in Nagpur.

Additionally, Maharashtra signed an MoU with Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd, under which the company will invest Rs 300 crore in the state for the development of industrial parks, logistics parks, and data centres, further boosting foreign direct investment.
