Bulk carrier MV Meghna Prestige has discharged a cargo of 30,077.618 metric tonnes of NPK (nitrogen–phosphorus–potassium) fertiliser at Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, for receiver Krishna Phoschem Ltd, marking another sizable fertiliser import through the west coast gateway.
The vessel’s call and discharge operations were coordinated by Rishi Shipping, which managed the port formalities, cargo handling and associated logistics, enabling timely berthing and swift commencement of unloading while maintaining strict safety standards in bulk fertiliser handling.
Port stakeholders expect the fresh NPK parcel to support pre‑season stocking and improve fertiliser availability for farming belts in western and northern India, where balanced NPK application plays a key role in boosting soil health and crop yields.
DPA Kandla, which has emerged as a major hub for fertiliser, coal, edible oils and other dry bulk imports, leveraged its deep‑draft berths and established cargo‑handling ecosystem to ensure efficient turnaround of the Meghna Prestige and smooth evacuation of cargo into the hinterland.
The successful operation underscores strong coordination between the port authority, stevedores, shipping agents and inland logistics providers, reinforcing Kandla’s position as a preferred gateway for bulk fertiliser imports that underpin India’s food security and agricultural growth.
