Emerging out of the COVID-19 restrictions the minor ports in Andhra Pradesh reported decent growth in revenues during 2021-22. The focus by the AP Maritime Board to accelerate business volumes has helped the state exchequer pocketing about 265Cr. This is about 17% increase over 2020-21 fiscal. “We made reasonably good revenues from the minor ports in the state as the total revenue touched 265Cr from the 226Cr of the previous financial year. This is significant in the wake of exports and imports getting hit by the COVID-19 restrictions across the globe,” revealed a senior official. Even though the volumes of minor ports dipped a bit due to COVID-19 related impact, but they managed to generate good revenues by plugging leakages in taxation. The five minor ports managed by the state government – Kakinada Anchorage port, Ravva, Kakinada deep water port, Gangavaram and Krishnapatnam Port – handled a cargo of 87.54 million tonnes in the past financial year. The AP State government generated revenues of Rs.185Cr from the wholly owned three ports near Kakinada. The revenues from two private ports – Gangavaram and Krishnapatnam decreased a bit as they contributed lesser to the exchequer compared to the previous year.
