At one of India’s main ports, the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) has improved security and operational efficiency by installing a state-of-the-art integrated RFID gate access system at all of its entry points. The new system is fully integrated with the Vaahan portal, the government’s consolidated vehicle registration database, as announced by MPA Chairman Dr. N. Vinodkumar.

By automating vehicle monitoring and identification as they enter and exit the port, this RFID technology reduces the need for manual checks and delays. It provides real-time information such as vehicle registration, pollution control certificate (PUC) status, driver credentials, and cargo details. This ensures that only authorised vehicles and drivers with valid documentation gain access, significantly boosting security. By integrating with the Vaahan portal, MPA can instantly verify vehicle registration validity, updated pollution certificates, and driver qualifications.

Cargo data linked to each vehicle is also accessible, facilitating smoother cargo handling and preventing unauthorized or unsafe materials from entering the port. The upgrade is expected to improve traffic flow, ease congestion at entry points, and increase overall operational efficiency. It aligns with government initiatives to digitise infrastructure while ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations.
