Mormugao Port has generated ₹4.82 crore in revenue from cruise operations under the Cruise Bharat Mission (CBM), Parliament was informed. Between October 2024 and June 2025, the port recorded 38 cruise ship calls and handled 67,594 passengers, Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Tanavade was told.
Launched on 30 September 2024, the CBM is a flagship initiative of the Government of India to transform the country’s cruise tourism sector. It provides an inter-ministerial framework addressing policy, regulatory, and operational aspects, while streamlining coordination among agencies such as Customs, Immigration, CISF, state tourism departments, maritime authorities, district administrations, and local police.
According to the government’s reply, one of the mission’s key goals is to generate around four lakh jobs by 2029, spurring growth in tourism, hospitality, and coastal entrepreneurship. Officials noted that Mormugao Port’s performance highlights the rising potential of cruise tourism in India and its role in driving both economic development and job creation.
