After a seven-year break, Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) in Goa is set to relaunch container operations, marking a significant revival for the state’s maritime and logistics ecosystem. The port, which last handled containerized cargo in 2018, will officially resume services in late November 2025, signaling a new phase of growth for Goa’s trade sector.
The Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) has been appointed as the feeder vessel operator for the renewed service, with the SCI Mumbai scheduled to make its maiden call at Mormugao Port on November 20. The vessel’s arrival will formally reopen container traffic through Goa’s primary seaport after years of dormancy.
Exporters and trade bodies have welcomed the move, noting that the return of container operations will help reduce logistics costs, shorten transit times, and lessen dependence on road transport to ports in neighboring states.
Industry experts believe the restart could transform Mormugao into a strategic logistics hub, capable of supporting Goa’s expanding industrial base and facilitating smoother international trade flows. The port’s renewed activity is also expected to attract new shipping lines and cargo operators, strengthening Goa’s position on India’s west coast maritime map.
