Motherson, through its joint venture Samvardhana Motherson Hamakyorex Engineered Logistics Ltd (SAMRX), has entered into an agreement with Dighi Port Ltd (DPL), a subsidiary of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), to create a dedicated automobile export facility at Maharashtra’s Dighi Port. The new terminal is designed to handle around 200,000 vehicles annually, marking a major expansion of India’s automotive logistics infrastructure.

Dighi Port, one of APSEZ’s key assets, is being positioned as a major gateway for the country’s fast-growing automotive exports. APSEZ CEO and Whole-time Director Ashwani Gupta said the collaboration combines APSEZ’s port infrastructure with Motherson’s logistics capabilities to build a seamless, resilient vehicle-movement network that enhances trade efficiency and supports the goals of the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The project will transform Dighi into an auto-export hub for manufacturers across Mumbai and the Pune automotive belt, providing a new strategic route for global shipments.

Laksh Vaaman Sehgal, Vice Chairman of the Motherson Group, said the development of the RoRo terminal represents a major advancement in the company’s mission to deliver integrated, world-class logistics solutions. He noted that the facility will help reduce logistics costs for automotive OEMs while strengthening India’s overall vehicle supply chain.

The terminal will be equipped with advanced infrastructure to manage end-to-end Finished Vehicle logistics. SAMRX plans to invest in vertical integration at the port, offering comprehensive services with full cargo visibility for its customers.

Dighi Port acts as a crucial maritime gateway for Maharashtra’s inland industrial regions and already provides extensive warehousing, tank farms, and open stockyards. APSEZ, which handles nearly 28% of India’s total port volumes and has a current annual capacity of 633 million tonnes, is targeting throughput of one billion tonnes by 2030.
