New security surveillance tower inaugurated at NMPA for monitoring

The newly built Security Surveillance Tower at New Mangalore Port was officially opened by TK Ramachandran, secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW). The port’s ISPS-compliant perimeter security and emergency response capabilities will be strengthened by this tower’s ability to monitor port operations around-the-clock.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) presented the secretary with a ceremonial guard of honour upon arriving at the port’s administrative facility. The NMPA chairman, AV Ramana, the deputy chairperson, S Shanthi, and the port officers welcomed him. In order to improve logistical effectiveness and cargo handling turnaround, the secretary laid the groundwork for the expansion of the truck parking terminal next to the Customs House.

Speaking on the occasion, the shipping seretary praised the port’s recent achievements and urged the employees to keep helping the maritime industry flourish. He praised NMPA’s efforts to implement cutting-edge automation and digital technology, such as e-kart ticketing, drone-based surveillance, automated firefighting, automated weighbridges, and digital port document processing.

He also the visited multispecialty hospital that was being built under a PPP. Ramachandran also went to the port’s international cruise lounge, where he examined the amenities and infrastructure offered to cruise passengers from other countries. As part of NMPA’s dedication to advancing cruise tourism, the contemporary facilities and passenger services were highlighted. Later, with top port personnel, he went on a tugboat wharf familiarization tour to get a personal look at the facilities and operational infrastructure. Additionally, he went to the Chowgule SBD Mangalore Shipyard in Tannirbhavi, where he examined the shipbuilding facilities and recognized the shipyard’s contribution to India’s expanding maritime manufacturing capacity.
