Between Agartala in Tripura and Sanehwal in Punjab, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has started running a specialized Parcel Cargo Express Train (PCET) service. The goal of this logistic cargo train is to make it easier and better to move important goods from Agartala in the Northeast to larger markets, like pineapples and rubber.
This project is expected to boost local economies and improve the region’s commerce infrastructure. With train numbers 00832/00833, the PCET is expected to operate twice a month for a total of 144 round journeys during a six-year period. In order to meet the expected surge in demand, the train will initially consist of 15 parcel vans and one brake van. After six months, it is planned to grow to 20 parcel vans.
By facilitating the timely and effective transportation of goods and cutting down on transit time, the service will give local farmers and dealers a dependable logistics solution. The lease to run these rail services has been given to AVG Logistics Ltd. after an open and competitive bidding process. The substantial investment made to strengthen the region’s supply chain capabilities is reflected in the entire contract value, which is almost Rs. 68.95 Cr. This will be a significant step in encouraging additional traders in the area to engage in comparable activity using the country’s most economical freight transportation infrastructure, the railways.
This initiative further demonstrates NFR’s dedication to encouraging economic development and enhancing connectivity in the Northeast, which is consistent with Indian Railways’ overarching goal of advancing parcel train services for the country’s long-haul freight demands.
