NEW MAJOR PORTS: IS IT WISE?
The Centre’s plan to set up two new major ports on the east coast may not be a wise decision considering the manner in which the state-owned ports are run in the country. Riddled with inefficiencies, these ports are steadily losing cargo to their private counterparts. Unless the government finds ways to address these issues, the new ports will not be able to achieve financial viability in a highly competitive business environment.
