Outer harbour work to soon start at V.O. Chidambaranar Port

In the capacity augmentation front, the Development of Outer Harbour with two terminals of 1000 m quay length each, at a cost of Rs.7055.95 Crores, is under active consideration of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.

The 75th Republic Day has been celebrated by V.O.Chidambaranar Port in a grand manner at Port’s School ground on 26.01.2024.Shri V. Suresh Babu, Chief Mechanical Engineer, unfurled the National flag and took salute from the contingent of CISF, Port Fire Service and Port School’s NCC cadets. 

In his Republic Day message, Shri V. Suresh Babu, Chief Mechanical Engineer, V.O.Chidambaranar Port Authority, stated that the ‘Constitution of India’ is infused with Fundamental Rights and the framework for the Government to function in a transparent & accountable manner.

He also stated that many global majors in Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia have evinced interest to set up manufacturing units in the Port lands. In the capacity augmentation front, the Development of Outer Harbour with two terminals of 1000 m quay length each, at a cost of Rs.7055.95 Crores, is under active consideration of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. He further stated that VOC Port has been identified as the Nodal Port for developing off-shore wind farms in the southern Tamilnadu from Kanniyakumari to Ramnad region and to support the initiative, the Port has proposed to develop the required berths and other infrastructure support.

He also expressed gratitude for the unwavering support, cooperation, and dedicated services of all the employees, Officers, Trade unions and Stakeholders for the recent growth achieved by the Port. 

As the part of the celebration, Shri V. Suresh Babu, Chief Mechanical Engineer, distributed the appreciation Awards to medal winners of the All India Major Ports Tournaments and the Port users for their timely assistance in distribution of relief materials to the flood affected people of southern districts of Tamilnadu.

To commemorate this historic day, Port’s school students performed cultural extravaganza showcasing the spirit of unity and diversity that defines our great nation. The CISF Contingent of the Port demonstrated reflex shooting and field formations.
