Paradip Port Authority will develop a dedicated green hydrogen jetty with allied facilities at an estimated cost of about ₹797.17 crore, positioning the port as a key hub for green energy cargo on India’s east coast.

The project, approved by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, will be implemented on a build-operate-transfer basis and is designed with a handling capacity of 4 million tonnes per annum for green hydrogen, green ammonia and other liquid cargo. Infrastructure planned under the scheme includes a dedicated berth, storage systems, pipelines, cargo-handling equipment and advanced safety systems tailored for green energy derivatives.

Paradip Port Authority will contribute capital support equivalent to 20% of the project cost, or about ₹159.43 crore, during the construction phase, with completion targeted within 24 months. The jetty will feature a dredged depth of about 14.3 metres and specialised liquid cargo berthing arrangements to safely handle large vessels.

Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said the facility will anchor Paradip’s role in the National Green Hydrogen Mission by strengthening export logistics and linking Odisha’s emerging green hydrogen production clusters with global markets, while also handling other liquid cargo in the initial years to maximise utilisation and diversify the port’s cargo mix.
