Paradip Port Authority (PPA), Odisha’s only major port, has achieved a historic milestone by handling 75 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo in the current financial year, the fastest any major Indian port has ever reached this mark.

The port crossed the landmark figure on September 26, 2025, recording a 5.03% increase in cargo volumes compared to the same period last year. Notably, the feat was accomplished 10 days ahead of the timeline achieved in FY 2024–25, underscoring the port’s operational efficiency and strong growth momentum.

Cargo performance highlights

PPA’s performance was driven by steady growth across key segments:

  • Crude oil: 17.22 MMT, up 19.34% year-on-year
  • Coastal thermal coal: 22.51 MMT, up 4.3%
  • Flux materials: 2.97 MMT, up 19%

Officials credited the record achievement to a combination of strategic planning, improved infrastructure, and close coordination with stakeholders.

Leadership’s message

“This milestone reflects the resilience and dedication of Team PPA, supported wholeheartedly by our customers and partners,” said P.L. Haranadh, Chairman, Paradip Port Authority. “Together, we will continue to script new chapters of growth, sustainability, and progress, further strengthening Paradip’s role as a key maritime gateway.”

Haranadh also expressed gratitude to officers, employees, user industries, stevedores, trade unions, PPP operators, and other stakeholders for their collective contribution to the record performance.

Strategic outlook

PPA noted that its consistent growth is backed by enhanced operational efficiencies and ongoing infrastructure development, which have positioned the port strongly to achieve its ambitious cargo handling target for FY 2025–26.

With this milestone, Paradip Port has reinforced its standing as one of India’s fastest-growing and most strategically significant ports, well on course to expand its role in the country’s maritime trade network.
