Paradip Port Authority (PPA) has reached a major sustainability milestone by becoming the second major port in India to successfully commission a Shore-to-Ship Power Supply System capable of delivering full-load power to vessels at berth.
The landmark operation was demonstrated at the CB-1 berth, where MV APJ INDRANI—owned by Apeejay Shipping, one of India’s oldest maritime companies with a 77-year legacy—was seamlessly connected to the shore power facility. The vessel’s successful integration underscores the port’s readiness to support ships equipped with shore power reception systems, significantly reducing emissions while alongside.
The commissioning of shore power at Paradip opens the door for cleaner port stays, cutting down on fuel consumption, noise, and air pollution from auxiliary engines. It also strengthens green linkages between future-ready ports and environmentally compliant vessels, aligning Indian ports with global decarbonisation standards.
Commenting on the achievement, Shri P. L. Haranadh, Chairman, Paradip Port Authority, said the live monitoring systems and on-ground operations demonstrated the robustness, safety, and efficiency of the advanced installation. He noted that the project reflects PPA’s strong commitment to sustainable, energy-efficient, and environmentally responsible port operations.
The Port Authority also acknowledged the critical role played by its Electrical and Mechanical Engineering teams in delivering the project, describing the commissioning as a key step toward pollution-free and low-carbon maritime operations at Paradip.
With this development, Paradip Port strengthens its position as a frontrunner in India’s green port transition, supporting the shipping industry’s shift toward cleaner and more sustainable practices.
