Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal (MICT) at Indira Dock, marking a major milestone for India’s maritime and tourism sectors. Developed under the Cruise Bharat Mission, the state-of-the-art facility is expected to significantly boost cruise tourism in the country.

Built at a cost of ₹556 crore, MICT spans 4.15 lakh sq. ft., making it the largest cruise terminal in India. It can berth five ships simultaneously and is designed to handle up to one million passengers annually.

The terminal’s interiors showcase a blend of modern architecture and Mumbai’s maritime heritage, featuring a wavy ceiling, rose-gold finishes, minimalist design, heritage décor, selfie points, maritime plaques, and cultural displays for an enhanced travel experience.

To ensure smooth passenger movement, the facility includes 72 immigration and check-in counters across 2.07 lakh sq. ft., along with parking for over 300 vehicles.

The first vessel to use the terminal will be the Cordelia Empress, scheduled to dock on September 22 before sailing to Goa and Lakshadweep.

Officials described MICT as a flagship project of the Cruise Bharat Mission, which envisions India as a leading global cruise hub by promoting ocean, river, and island cruises. The government has set ambitious targets to sharply increase cruise passenger numbers by 2029, with the new terminal equipped to handle nearly 200 cruise ships annually, including vessels carrying up to 5,000 passengers.
