Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two major greenfield industrial parks at Kopparthy and Orvakal in Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant milestone in India’s industrial expansion. With a combined investment of ₹4,920 crore, the projects are expected to accelerate the state’s emergence as a key manufacturing hub in southern India.

Speaking at the launch, the prime minister said the new developments reflect India’s growing industrial momentum and the country’s aspiration to become a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India) by 2047. “The world today sees India as the new manufacturing powerhouse of the 21st century,” he said, highlighting Andhra Pradesh’s strategic role in advancing India’s self-reliance and industrial growth agenda.

The parks are among 12 new greenfield industrial cities approved under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) last year. Developed jointly by the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) and the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), the hubs are designed to attract over ₹21,000 crore in additional investment and generate around 1 lakh direct jobs.

The Orvakal Industrial Area (OIA), spread across 2,621 acres in Kurnool district, is envisioned as an integrated, self-sustaining industrial township that combines industrial, residential, commercial, and social infrastructure. With an investment potential of about ₹12,000 crore, OIA will cater to diverse sectors including automobile components, renewable energy, aerospace and defence, electrical and electronics, textiles and apparel, pharmaceuticals, and gems and jewellery.

The Kopparthy Industrial Area, located in Kadapa district under the Visakhapatnam–Chennai Industrial Corridor (VCIC), spans 2,595 acres and is being developed at a project cost of ₹2,136 crore. Its proximity to NH-40, NH-716, Kadapa Airport, and ports such as Krishnapatnam and Chennai gives it a strong logistical edge, positioning it as a vital maritime trade and export gateway for the region.

The NICDP, implemented by the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC), is a flagship initiative aimed at building smart, sustainable industrial cities with world-class infrastructure to boost manufacturing’s contribution to India’s GDP.

With the addition of these 12 new parks, India will soon have 20 smart industrial cities—including four operational (Dholera in Gujarat, Shendra-Bidkin in Maharashtra, Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh, and Vikram Udyogpuri in Madhya Pradesh) and four others under construction.

Apart from the two in Andhra Pradesh, upcoming industrial cities are being developed at Khurpia (Uttarakhand), Rajpura (Punjab), Agra and Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Gaya (Bihar), Dighi Port (Maharashtra), Jodhpur-Pali-Marwar (Rajasthan), Zaheerabad (Telangana), and Palakkad (Kerala). These cities are strategically aligned along key national industrial corridors such as the Amritsar–Kolkata, Delhi–Mumbai, Vizag–Chennai, Hyderabad–Bengaluru, Hyderabad–Nagpur, and Chennai–Bengaluru corridors—reinforcing India’s goal of becoming a global manufacturing and logistics powerhouse.
