PM Modi to launch ₹7,870-crore maritime projects in Gujarat

According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the initiatives include the inauguration of the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at Indira Dock and the foundation stone laying for the Tuna Tekra Multi-Cargo Terminal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a series of shipping and shipbuilding projects worth over ₹7,870 crore in Bhavnagar, Gujarat, on Saturday, giving a major push to India’s maritime infrastructure.

According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the initiatives include the inauguration of the Mumbai International Cruise Terminal at Indira Dock and the foundation stone laying for the Tuna Tekra Multi-Cargo Terminal.

The Prime Minister will also launch a new container terminal and allied facilities at Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, Kolkata; a new container berth and cargo handling facilities at Paradip Port; and firefighting systems with modern road connectivity at Kamarajar Port, Ennore.

Other projects include coastal protection works such as sea walls and revetments at Chennai Port, sea wall construction at Car Nicobar Island, a multi-purpose cargo berth and Green Bio-Methanol plant at Deendayal Port, Kandla, and ship repair facilities at Patna and Varanasi.

The government said these projects are aimed at strengthening India’s shipping capacity, enhancing port connectivity, and boosting sustainable maritime development.
