Port Authority has been named as a finalist across five categories in the 2025 Daily Cargo News Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards, recognising an ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability, maritime safety, and industry excellence.
Port Authority of NSW Chief Executive Officer, John McKenna said the nominations for the Environmental Award, Maritime Services Award, and Safety Award were a testament to the professionalism of Port Authority teams across the State.
“Maritime safety is at the core of what we do, and being named a finalist for the Safety Award recognises the work of our teams, from delivering the Port Kembla Abort Channel Project to guiding hundreds of vessels safely through extreme weather in the Hunter.
“Likewise, recognition as a finalist for the Environmental Award also highlights our sustainability journey, with Port Authority becoming the first Australian port operator to achieve Green Marine certification and reaching net zero Scope 2 emissions last year.”
In addition to organisational recognition, three Port Authority team members have received individual honours as finalists in the 2025 Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards.
Catherine Blaine, Acting Group Executive, Infrastructure, Assets and Development and Chief Risk Officer, and Josephine Clark, Marine Pilot at Port Kembla, have both been nominated for the Women in Shipping & Maritime Logistics Award, recognising their leadership and contribution to advancing diversity across the maritime sector.
Michael Kelly, Marine Pilot at Port Botany, is a finalist for the Seafarers Welfare Award, acknowledged for his commitment to the safety, wellbeing, and support of seafarers. This includes his involvement with Port Authority’s Deck Cadet Sponsorship Program and his work in providing opal cards and Christmas hampers to visiting ships and crew over the Christmas period.
Port Authority is also proud to sponsor the Diversity and Inclusion Award at this year’s event, reflecting its commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive maritime industry.
The winners of the 2025 Daily Cargo News Australian Shipping & Maritime Industry Awards will be announced at a gala event on Thursday 20 November at the Shangri-La Sydney.
