Thailand’s Regional Container Lines (RCL) has placed an order with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for two 14,000 TEU container vessels — the company’s first-ever collaboration with the South Korean shipbuilder.

Valued at KRW 435.3 billion (approximately $299 million), the contract calls for delivery of the ships by October 2028. The move marks a significant strategic shift for RCL, which has traditionally operated smaller vessels serving the intra-Asia market, as it steps up to compete on major global trade routes.

For HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, the deal adds further momentum to a record year — the yard has now secured 61 container ship orders in 2025, more than double the 28 booked in the previous year.
