Roshni Aparanji Korati takes charge as Deputy Chairperson of VPA

Roshni Aparanji Korati, IAS (2011), has assumed charge as the Deputy Chairperson of the Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA), marking a significant milestone as the first woman IAS officer to occupy this senior position.

An officer of the Assam–Meghalaya cadre, Korati has a strong personal connection with Visakhapatnam. She completed her entire education in the city, and her appointment carries special emotional significance, as her father had earlier served as Head Master at the Visakhapatnam Port High School. In a notable continuation of this association, she has now joined the organisation in a key leadership role, VPA said in a release.

Born on April 3, 1984, Korati is a Gold Medallist in Mass Communication from Andhra University. She brings extensive administrative experience across district, state and central government levels.

Her career includes postings as Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jorhat, followed by her tenure as Collector and District Magistrate of Jorhat district. She later served as Collector and District Magistrate of Dhemaji district in Assam, where she led several important rural development and welfare programmes.

At the state level, Korati held the position of Secretary to the Government of Assam, including assignments as Secretary, Elementary Education, and Mission Director of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA). She also served as Agriculture Secretary and Project Director of the Assam Rural Infrastructure and Agricultural Services (ARIAS) Society.

In recognition of her exemplary contributions to public administration, she received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration in 2018. She is widely regarded for her people-centric approach, leadership capabilities and commitment to public service.

Before taking charge at the Visakhapatnam Port Authority, Korati was on central deputation as Joint Development Commissioner at the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ).
