Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has officially partnered with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), represented by its logistics arm, National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), to develop Multi-modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) across India under the Bharatmala Pariyojana initiative.
This collaboration, formalized on September 6, 2021, aims to create a robust and integrated logistics network that supports the movement and distribution of goods from ports, rural hubs, and industrial zones throughout the country. By joining forces, RVNL and NHLML plan to streamline supply chains and improve efficiency across key transport corridors to strengthen India’s logistics ecosystem.
The responsibility of RVNL will be for the design, planning, feasibility study, DPR, implementation and commissioning of road connectivity works for MMLPs. Separate agreements and contracts are being entered into at appropriate stages for each MMLP which is planned at 35 locations in the country.
The idea is to provide large-scale, standardised warehousing facilities for various types of goods by setting up project-specific SPV(s) on a “Hub and Spoke Model”. This Umbrella Agreement is valid for five years and can be extended. Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) undertakes all types of railway infrastructure projects from concept to implementation; raising extra-budgetary resources by setting up project-specific SPVs. The company has achieved several milestones, including the completion of several projects such as new lines, doubling, gauge conversion, and electrification. It also constructs workshops, bridges, government buildings, and metro lines.
